House Cleaning 101: Why is Spring Cleaning a Must?

by Maid Just Right Team - April 19, 2018

Every spring, all over the world, people pull out their cleaning supplies or call cleaning services, and the washing, scrubbing, wiping, dusting and polishing can start. Some call it a ritual, but it’s a lot more important than you might think.

Whether we love it or hate it, when the Spring comes, we all know that we can’t avoid a major house cleaning. So, it doesn’t matter if you’ll do it yourself, or call cleaning services; this chore is something that has to be done.
But do you know why you’re doing this huge chore each spring?

Once the Spring comes, we all feel an urge to freshen our homes. In a way, it makes perfect sense. Our homes were closed off during the entire winter, so the first mild days are perfect for airing rooms out. Spring is the most logical time for disinfecting, decluttering, deodorizing, and dusting. It’s the best time to get rid of all that mess and dirt that pilled up during the winter.

There’s also a historical reason why we have this habit. In the past, our ancestors heated their homes with coal or wood, so first warm days were perfect to get rid of all the soot.

In some cultures, spring cleaning even became a regeneration ritual. During the ritual, they don’t just get rid of physical dirt and junk, but also of emotional baggage.

Believe it or not, even some animal species refresh their nests and dens after the winter.

So, it’s in our culture, history, and our genes. But, that’s not all.

There are several good reasons to do your spring cleaning.

It’s good for your health

Although house cleaning is a great exercise, that’s not what we have in mind. A spring cleaning well done will remove allergens from your home, and help you avoid allergy symptoms. During the winter, your home was shut, so your carpets became breeding grounds for pollen, mold spores, pet dander, dust mite feces, and bacteria. Not to mention that your entire home is now full of dust, mud, and fallen hair follicles. Your furnishings, drapes, bedding, floors, and ceilings all need to be cleaned. Once you do this, your home will be a lot healthier. If you’re not sure you can be that thorough, cleaning services are always willing to do it for you.

It’s great for your mood

A clean and tidy home makes us happier, according to studies. When your home is clean, you feel like your life is more in order than usual. The very fact that you finished this enormous task will make you feel satisfied. That will put you in a good mood. Plus, it will reduce your stress levels. As soon as you remove that annoying clutter and clean everything up, you won’t have any more reason to stress about the state your home is in.

It’s awesome for your productivity

Spring cleaning includes some decluttering and organizing as well. Once you organize your home, so it looks just the way you want it to, you will feel a surge of energy. If you work from home, organizing your home office will make you feel more eager to work. Plus, as soon as you do one big task, you’ll be more ready to tackle the next one.

It doesn’t matter if you’re not a big fan of house cleaning; you can always hire cleaning services. But, a spring cleaning is not just a habit – it is a definite must.
