Most people associate cleaning with elbow grease and a fair amount of hard work. It really doesn’t have to be that way and these simple hacks can really work.
Need to clean out that microwave right now? Can’t clean those blinds properly? Got a smelly couch you want to be a little fresher? Then read on for some simple solutions to everyday problems.
Clean the Microwave
Ever cooked something in the microwave and opened it to find the insides splattered with sauce? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. This kind of mess can build up and be hard to remove. Our solution is easy: put a bowl of water in the microwave with a couple of quarters of lemon in it. Switch on the microwave for a minute or two. Then simply wipe away the grime inside with a soft cloth or paper towel.
Especially if you have pets, your furniture can become a little jaded and begin to smell. While your pup might enjoy this heavenly aroma, you probably don’t. The best way to deal with it is to sprinkle your sofa or armchair with baking soda and leave for about 20 minutes. Then simply hoover it up for a fresher smell and look.
Clean Those Blinds
Slat blinds can be a real pain to clean properly. With a little ingenuity, though, it doesn’t have to be that way. All you need is an old sock and some vinegar. Spray on a weak solution of water and vinegar and then put the sock over your hand and use it to wipe each slat clean. It’s great for areas such as the kitchen when the blinds get really grimy.
There’s not a person alive who hasn’t had to deal with a burnt pan at one time or another. You have the choice of putting in plenty of effort and spending your evening working hard to return your pan to pristine condition. Or you can try the easier way.
Fill your pan with water first of all and then add a liberal dose of white vinegar. Bring it to the boil then take it off the heat and add a couple of spoons of baking soda. This should lift all the burn marks up and after a few minutes you can simply empty it out and hopefully wipe it clean.
Another common household stain is the coffee ring on the table. Someone doesn’t use the coaster and puts down the cup and before you know it you have a nice round stain. Don’t worry. Simply get some absorbent towel, wipe off the excess moisture and then dry the area with a hair drier.
If you have long term stains or have bought furniture with stains, there are a couple of other ingenious solutions. You can use mayonnaise or Vaseline to work into the stained area. A bit of toothpaste rubbed into the area can also be effective and you can make it a little stronger by adding baking powder.
