The 5 Worst Cleaning Jobs You’d Rather Avoid

by Maid Just Right Team - March 2, 2017

While most of us don’t mind getting out the vacuum every so often, there are a few cleaning jobs that we’d rather not bother with. They’re either too laborious or are just plain messy.

Here’s our top 5:

  1. Window Blinds

It’s a job that people tend to forget about until they suddenly realize those slats are covered in dust and grease. Cleaning blinds is something you should do regularly if you want to avoid all that hard work. The good news is it’s simple to do. All you need is an old sock and some white vinegar. Put the sock on your hand and dip it into the vinegar, squeeze out and the wipe gently over the slats working from top to bottom.

  1. Cleaning the Oven

While we might keep the top of our ovens spotless, perhaps because they’re more readily on view, we’re not too good at making sure the insides are clean. This is something you should do regularly if you don’t want a buildup of grease and hardened grime. If you stay on top of things these surfaces should just need a good wipe once a week. If you’ve allowed things to get out of hand, you may need to get a specialist oven cleaner.

  1. Crusty Pots and Pans

No matter how hard we try, those pans just get ingrained with dirt, grease and other stuff over the years. It seems to build up magically until you reach the stage where something needs to be done.

This usually involves a lot of elbow grease and a good deal of time spent at the sink.

But is there an easier way?

There are lots of tips on the internet, some of which work, many which don’t. One useful trick is to make a paste using baking soda and coat the affected area and leave overnight. It should then be easier to scrub off the grease, though you might have to try it a couple of times before your pans are as good as new. Another option is to add white vinegar to baking soda and use it as a scrub.

  1. The Microwave

Have you ever cooked something in the microwave only to find food splattered all over the place? It’s a common problem and one which many people find difficult for some reason. There’s an easy solution if you find hardened food in your device – simply put a bowl of white vinegar inside and turn on for a couple of minutes. Then open and wipe away the softened grime.

  1. Behind Appliances

It usually happens when you decide to do a spring clean. You pull back the cooker or the fridge and you find about a year’s supply of dust and grime, maybe more. It’s important to keep these hidden areas clean for hygiene reasons and there’s no solution but to put your back into it. Invest in a good degreaser and make a note to check these places more regularly if you want to save on the work. A quick wipe down every month can make all the difference.
